Social media image size guide

It can be tricky to keep track of social media image sizes.

Luckily, our design experts, marketing gurus and digital dynamos have produced a little gift for our Straightedge readers.

We’ve created a crash course on all things image size, across all your most-used social media.

Presenting Straightedge’s brand new, just for you, social media image size guide:

Facebook social media image size guide

Facebook has three major sizes for imagery.

Profile images, for both personal and business pages, are the smallest at 180 x 180 pixels.

Cover photos are larger, heading the page at 828 x 315 pixels.

Finally, the largest images are those shared to timelines or albums. The sizing for these is 1,200 x 630 pixels.

Instagram social media image size guide

Instagram is less straightforward than its partner, Facebook.

Profile images are rounded and small, with 110 x 110 pixels making them more compatible with mobile use.

The size of the photos is generally 1080 x 1080 pixels. However, Instagram does now support non-squared photos to a limited extent.

It is also important to remember that any image you post will be condensed to 161 x 161 pixels on your profile. Non-squared photos will be cropped in this display.

Twitter social media image size guide

Twitter, like Facebook, has three types of image, all different sizes.

After the recent update, the profile pictures on Twitter are rounded, but the dimensions remain 400 x 400 pixels. This does mean you have to be careful not to have anything cut off at the corners, though.

Header photos for your profile are long but short, coming in at 1500 x 500 pixels.

Lastly, images attached to tweets will be displayed at 440 x 220 pixels.

LinkedIn social media image size guide

LinkedIn is yet another platform with three major sizes of image.

Firstly, the standard logo is 400 x 400 pixels. On a personal profile, the image is a bubble rather than a square, but the dimensions are the same.

Next, the hero image. This is the largest image on your LinkedIn page at 974 x 330 pixels.

Finally, the post image size on LinkedIn is 646 x 220 pixels.

Google+ social media image size guide

Google+, while less widely used, has a similar sizing setup to other major platforms.

Profile images are a rounded 250 x 250 pixels.

Cover images sit behind the left-aligned profile image and measure 1080 x 608 pixels.

There is a minor difference between shared images and videos. While images are displayed at 497 x 373 pixels, videos will simply be restricted to a width of 496 pixels.

So take these infographics and post content without the worry of sizing problems between your different channels.
